Ambassade Miguel Maria N'Zau Puna was nominated by President Jose Eduardo dos Santos to become the Angolan Ambassador to Canada in November, 1999. He presented his credentials to Governor General Adrienne Clarkson on September 28, 2000 to become the first Angolan Ambassador to Canada .
A native of Simulambuco-Cabinda Angola , Ambassador Puna was born on February 23, 1932 and received his Bachelor degree of Agriculture and Economic Sciences in Tunisia
Ambassador Puna has made it his top priority to meet with, listen to and learn from Canadians. He traveled across Canada as far north as Nunavut , Vancouver , Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland .
Ambassador Puna was on the cutting-edge of most major reform legislation. He has been a leading figure in the march toward democracy and reconciliation of political forces in Angola and member of GURN (Government of Unity and National Reconciliation). Prior to this position in 1968 he was Appointed Secretary General of the political party (UNITA) as a Second Person. In 1992 he Split with UNITA and created a new political party TRD (Tendência de Reflexão Democratica) – President . From 1997 to 1999 he was Deputy Minister of Administration and Territories
Throughout his distinguished career, upon decree of the Chief Commander, he was promoted to a 3-stars General of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA)
Ambassador Puna and his wife Teresa Puna have three boys and two girls; Jose Binda Muyi Puna, Mariana Simbo Puna, Alberto Samba N'Zau Puna, Almira Suali Puna and Etienne Vidal Puna. |
