Ambassador Agostinho Tavares da Silva Neto

Ambassador Agostinho Tavares da Silva Neto presented his credentials to the Governor General of Canada on September 19, 2011 in Quebec City, becoming the 2nd Angolan Ambassador to Canada.

Ambassador Agostinho Tavares joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March 1977, the Directorate for Cooperation and Economic Affairs. Subsequently the Directorate of Cooperation and Economic Affairs become Secretary of State for Cooperation in 1978 and assumed the leadership of the Human Resources department.

Before coming to Canada, Ambassador Agostinho Tavares served as:

  • Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in India, New Delhi
  • Head of Department at the Directorate Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of External Relations
  • First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Angola to the Federal Republic of Brazil, Brasilia
  • Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Angola to the Federative Republic of Brazil, Brasilia
  • Head of Asia and Oceania Department of Bilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of External Relations

Ambassador Agostinho Tavares da Silva Neto was born on January 16, 1954, received a Bachelor Degree in International Relations at the University Center of Brasilia, Brazil. High Level Degree: Planning at the Institute Middle Karl Marx in Luanda, Angola.
Ambassador Agostinho Tavares and his wife, PrudĂȘncia de Sousa Carneiro da Silva, have 5 children.
