The new Ambassador of Angola to Canada, Mr. Edgar Gaspar Martins, arrived to Ottawa.
He was welcomed by the Deputy Chief of Protocol of Canada and Director of Diplomatic Corps Services, Chantal Chastenay, and by the dean of the African diplomatic corps, Vincent Horace, from Madagascar, accompanied by several Heads of Missions of Africa .
The new Ambassador of Angola will present his letters of credentials, on June 1st, to the Governor-General of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston.
Mr. Edgar Gaspar Martins is well known by the diplomatic corps here in Ottawa. He worked previously in Canada, during the years 2001-2006, as Minister Counsellor of the Angola Embassy.
Before being appointed Ambassador to Canada, he held the position of Director of Human Resources at the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He was appointed Ambassador of Angola to Canada, by the President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, on February 13th, 2015.
Mr. Edgar Gaspar Martins replaces Mr. Agostinho Tavares da Silva Neto who was reassigned Ambassador to United States.
